New swine fever case found in Central Japan
April 21, 2019
Nagoya--The Aichi prefectural government said Sunday that a new swine fever case has been found in the central Japan prefecture, at a pig farm in the city of Tahara.
The local authorities culled a total of some 1,800 pigs--1,000 at the farm and 800 at two affiliated farms in the same city--and took other measures to prevent the spread of the disease, also known as hog cholera.
Some 200 pigs were shipped from the affiliated farms between April 11 and Friday. "We have confirmed that these animals tested negative to swine fever in an examination (at the time of shipments)," an official said.
A series of swine fever cases have been confirmed in the prefecture since infected pigs were found in the city of Toyota in Aichi, as well as in Tahara, in February. Jiji Press
