Nissan loses quality certification at all plants in Japan
November 15, 2017
Tokyo- Nissan Motor Co. has lost internationally recognized quality management certification for vehicle production at all of its six plants in Japan over the automaker's product inspection scandal, it was learned on Wednesday.
While Nissan can continue operations at the plants without the certification from the International Organization for Standardization, or ISO, the embattled Japanese automaker aims to regain the certification in order to restore public trust damaged by the scandal, informed sources said.
As of Oct. 31, an ISO certification body excluded production of vehicles for the Japanese market from the scope of the quality management certification for Nissan.
The decision followed the revelation earlier in the month that product inspection by unqualified workers continued at Nissan even after the company announced that it had taken corrective measures.
Following the revelation, Nissan temporarily suspended production at the domestic plants to implement measures to prevent similar irregularities. It restarted production there by Nov. 8, following on-site inspections by the transport ministry. Jiji Press
