Pola apologizes for store sign banning Chinese
November 26, 2017
Tokyo- Japanese cosmetics maker Pola Inc. has apologized for a sign banning Chinese customers that had been placed at one of its outlets.
Pola, under the wing of Pola Orbis Holdings Inc. , terminated the commissioned sales contract with the store as of Saturday and the outlet was closed. The inappropriate sign has been removed.
"We regret and are very sorry for hurting many people's feelings and causing trouble to them," Pola said on its website.
The sign came under criticism after images of it were posted on social networking sites in China.
The company has not revealed the location of the store, but said it is different from the one named on some SNS sites.
A spokesman for Pola Orbis said the store owner seems to have a personal problem with a Chinese who was not a customer of the store. The sign was not aimed at Chinese customers in general and the store owner deeply regrets having caused such trouble, the spokesman said. Jiji Press
