Princess Aiko Leaves for Britain to Join Summer School

Tokyo- Japanese Princess Aiko left her home, the Togu Palace at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo's Minato Ward, for Britain on Sunday morning to take part in her high school's study program in the European nation.
The princess, 16, who is in the second year at Gakushuin Girls' Senior High School, will attend classes to be offered in English at Eton College, a famous public school in a London suburb, with other students from the Japanese school while staying at a dormitory, according to officials of the Imperial Household Agency.
Princess Aiko, the only child of Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, will also visit such places as Portsmouth and Oxford to experience local culture, the officials said.
This is her first visit abroad without her parents. The princess visited the Netherlands with her parents when she was four years old.
Princess Aiko looked happy about her upcoming experience, according to the officials. She will return home on Aug. 9. Jiji Press
