S. Korea assembly speaker again seeks emperor’s apology

Seoul--South Korean National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang again asked for an apology from Japanese Emperor Akihito or Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the issue of so-called comfort women, a South Korean daily reported Wednesday.

In an interview with the Hankyoreh, Moon said what matters most is a sincere apology, when it comes to the issue of South Korean comfort women who were forced into prostitution for Japanese troops before and during World War II.

The parliamentary speaker said the fundamental problem would be solved if the Japanese prime minister or the Emperor, the symbol of Japan, apologizes to "the grandmothers (former comfort women)."

Although the Japanese government has asked Moon to retract and apologize for similar remarks he made before over the comfort women issue, he chose to reiterate his way of thinking.

Moon told the newspaper that there is no statute of limitations on war crimes or crimes against humanity in the court of history. Jiji Press
