S. Korean Lawmakers Visit Takeshima
November 26, 2018
Seoul--A suprapartisan group of South Korean lawmakers on Monday visited the disputed Sea of Japan islets of Takeshima, controlled by Seoul and claimed by Tokyo, informed sources said.
According to the sources, the group, which included Na Kyung-won of the Liberty Korea Party, the country's largest opposition party, landed to inspect improvements made on facilities at the islands and to encourage police officers and others stationed there.
Another group of South Korean lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties visited the islands in October.
Na and others visited the islands on Aug. 15, 2016, the anniversary of the end of Japan's colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula.
The islands in Shimane Prefecture, western Japan, are called Dokdo in South Korea. Jiji Press
