February 15, 2019
Tokorozawa, Saitama Pref.Seibu Railway Co. unveiled on Thursday a new limited express train named "Laview" featuring rounded astronaut helmet-like windshields on the cars at either end.
The silver-color eight-car train will be put into service on March 16 between Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo and Seibu Chichibu Station in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
"I'm proud about releasing a new limited express train that can be welcomed by both commuters and tourists," Seibu Railway Chairman Takashi Goto said at a media preview event at the railway's Kotesashi car base in the Saitama city of Tokorozawa.
According to the operator, the Laview train has 422 yellow cozy seats and big windows to allow passengers to enjoy the changing landscapes. The train also features an armrest table and power outlet for each seat.
There will be six inbound Laview services and five outbound services on weekdays. On Sundays and other holidays, the number of inbound services will be reduced by one.
Seibu will charge the same additional fares to Laview users as those for current limited express trains set to retire. For instance, rides between Ikebukuro and Seibu Chichibu cost 700 yen on top of the base fare of 780 yen for adults.
Laview ticket sales will start on Saturday. Jiji Press
