CHIBA- A man set off a smoke bomb at a fan event of Japanese all-girl idol group Keyakizaka46 in the city of Chiba, the capital of the namesake prefecture in eastern Japan, on Saturday evening
The Chiba prefectural police department arrested the 24-year-old man, who calls himself Ryohei Abe, at the site of the event in which fans could shake hands with Keyakizaka46 members, in violation of the swords and firearms control law as he also carried a fruit knife with him.
No fire broke out from the smoke bomb, and no one was injured in the incident, according to local firefighters.
Abe admitted to the allegations against him, telling the police that he wanted to stab his favorite Keyakizaka46 member to death, according to police sources.
Fire authorities received an emergency call shortly past 8 p.m. Saturday (11 a.m. GMT) reporting that someone set off a smoke bomb during the event being held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Mihama Ward in the prefectural capital. (Jiji Press)
