Strong quake hits Fukushima

TOKYO- A strong earthquake rocked Fukushima Prefecture on Friday night, measuring lower 5 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 in the town of Naraha and the village of Kawauchi, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The quake, with an estimated magnitude of 5.9, occurred off the coast of the northeastern prefecture at around 11:56 p.m. (2:56 p.m. GMT), followed by a 4.3-magnitude jolt around midnight.
No tsunami warning was issued.
Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. said nothing unusual happened at its Fukushima No. 1 and No. 2 nuclear power plants after the quakes. Jiji Press
