Suga disappointed over comfort women statue in Manila
December 12, 2017
Tokyo- Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga expressed Tuesday his disappointment over a statue built in Manila for so-called comfort women, who were forced into prostitution for Japanese troops before and during World War II.
Suga told a press conference that the unveiling ceremony for the memorial was held on Friday.
"It's extremely regrettable as it conflicts with our government's position on the issue," he said.
Suga said that the government is in the middle of confirming facts with the Philippine government through Japan's Foreign Ministry. Jiji Press
