November 13, 2019

Aomori--Police arrested a 14-year-old male junior high school student on Tuesday for allegedly slashing the neck of a girl in an upper grade of elementary school on a street in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan, earlier in the day.

The boy has admitted to the charges, saying that he intended to kill the girl, according to investigative sources.

With the girl seen to be not acquainted with the suspect, the Aomori prefectural police are investigating the motive behind his action.

The 14-year-old is suspected of slashing the girl in the front of her neck at around 4:40 p.m. (7:40 a.m. GMT) on Tuesday. The girl received a cut of about 10 centimeters long and up to around one centimeter deep near her throat, an injury that will take three weeks to heal, according to the prefectural police.

A security camera near the crime scene had caught a person who resembled the suspect.

The police confiscated clothes that were consistent with what the girl testified and multiple cutter knives from locations including the suspect's home. Jiji Press
