TEPCO Suspends Sale of Souvenirs at Fukushima N-Plant

Fukushima- Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. said Thursday it will stop selling plastic file folders that it released on Aug. 1 as souvenirs at its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

"It's true that we received criticisms," a company official said. "We accept them sincerely."

The folders were produced upon requests mainly from visitors to the stricken plant, the site of the March 2011 nuclear accident, as a commemorative item to take back home, according to TEPCO.

The company, however, has received a flurry of criticism on the Internet, accusing it of lacking consideration for victims. It has also received inquiries by phone about the products.

TEPCO said the suspension of sales of the folders was decided so it can "reflect on the effects of and reactions to the products." The utility also said it will consider resuming the sale at a later date.

The folders, priced at 300 yen for a set of three, had been sold at convenience stores in the grounds of the plant, carrying photos of decommissioning work being carried out at the plant's No. 1 to No. 4 reactors. Jiji Press
