Thai Airways Head Promotes Charms of Sendai

October 12, 2019

Bangkok- Thai Airways International President Sumeth Damrongchaitham has promoted the charms of Sendai, before the carrier reopens its regular flight services connecting Bangkok and the northeastern Japan city on Oct. 29.

At an event held in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Friday to commemorate the planned restart of the flights, Sumeth said that Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture, is a very attractive gateway to the Tohoku northeastern Japan region.

Noting that over 80 pct of Bangkok-Sendai flights have already been booked until March next year, Sumeth expressed his confidence in maintaining high seat occupancy rates.

Sumeth cited ski and hot spring resorts as attractions of Sendai and surrounding areas, stressing that the city is especially beautiful in autumn colors.

Participants at the event enjoyed viewing decorations used in Sendai's "tanabata" summer festival and a replica of a statue of Date Masamune (1567-1636), a warlord who ruled the area, riding on a horse, a landmark in the city.

Thai Airways will operate three round-trip services a week on the Bangkok-Sendai route.

The route was suspended in March 2014 due to political unrest in Thailand. Jiji Press
