Tokyo aiming to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050
May 23, 2019
Tokyo--The Tokyo metropolitan government has set a goal of achieving zero carbon dioxide emissions in the Japanese capital by 2050 to fight global warming.
This is more ambitious than the Japanese government's goal of achieving zero emissions effectively early in the latter half of this century.
The metropolitan government said Tuesday that it will draw up a detailed strategy to meet the goal by around December.
Under the strategy, the metropolitan government will aim to reduce the amount of incinerated plastic waste to some 400,000 tons by fiscal 2030 from about 700,000 tons in fiscal 2017, which ended in March 2018.
The strategy will also include increasing the number of quick chargers for electric vehicles to 1,000 by calendar 2030 from about 300 in 2018 to promote the use of emission-free vehicles. Jiji Press
