Tokyo refrains from taking position on Trump decision on Jerusalem
December 7, 2017
Tokyo- The Japanese government's top spokesman on Thursday expressed neither support nor opposition over US President Donald Trump's decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"The United States has just announced the move," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference. "We're examining the content of the announcement and specific actions that the United States is expected to take from now."
The announcement, made on Wednesday, also included a decision to relocate the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"We'll keep a close watch with great interest on related developments, including implications for (efforts toward) peace in the Middle East," Suga added. Jiji Press
