Toyosu Market to Allow Visitors from Oct. 13
October 5, 2018
Tokyo- The Tokyo metropolitan government said Thursday that it will allow visitors to the Japanese capital's new Toyosu wholesale food market, starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 13 (1 a.m. GMT).
People will be able to see the inside of the market's facilities, including the wholesale area for fishery products, from a visitor aisle. They will also be able to use restaurants and merchandise stores.
Starting on Oct. 15, the market will be opened to visitors between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. It will be closed on Oct. 14.
The Toyosu market is scheduled to open on Oct. 11 to take over the functions of Tokyo's iconic Tsukiji wholesale food market.
The new market will start a tour to see the tuna auction on Jan. 15 next year.
The Tsukiji market was popular among people from abroad as they were able to see the tuna auction up close.
At the Toyosu market, visitors will be allowed to watch the auction only through a glass wall, a change that was made for hygiene reasons. Jiji Press
