Toyota, NTT announce tie-up on connected cars

TOKYO- Toyota Motor Corp. and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. said Monday they have agreed to collaborate on the development of Internet-connected cars.
The partnership covers the fields of big data, the Internet of Things, fifth-generation wireless systems and artificial intelligence, with a view to combining these technologies for automated driving.
Toyota and NTT plan to carry out a field test on their envisaged services in Japan in 2018.
Under the tie-up, the two companies will work to create a system that can gather big data, including from car-mounted cameras, and analyze the data in real time, as well as promote 5G standardization for vehicles.
NTT Docomo Inc.is working to commercialize 5G technology, which will realize wireless communications more than 100 times the current speeds, by 2020. Jiji Press
