Trump to nominate Hagerty as envoy to Japan
March 24, 2017
WASHINGTON- US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will nominate William Hagerty, a founder of US private equity firm Hagerty Peterson & Co., as ambassador to Japan.
Hagerty, known for his pro-Japanese stance, earned Trump’s trust through his service as director of presidential appointments in Trump’s transition team. Hagerty will take office if confirmed by the Senate.
Hagerty, a native of Tennessee, joined Trump’s team though he initially supported former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Trump’s rival in the presidential election.
He worked to select political appointees, including senior ministry officials, after joining the transition team last summer. Jiji Press
