U.S. Approves Sale of Up to 9 E-2D Hawkeye Aircraft to Japan

Washington- The U.S. State Department said Monday that it has approved the sale of up to nine E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft to Japan for an estimated cost of 3,135 million dollars.
Congress was notified of the decision on Friday, the department said.
In a statement, the department said that the sale "will improve Japan's ability to effectively provide homeland defense."
"It is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Japan in developing and maintain a strong and effective self-defense capability," the statement said. Jiji Press
