U.S. Marine rearrested for attempted murder in Tokyo
July 4, 2019
Tokyo--Tokyo police on Thursday served a U.S. Marine with an additional arrest warrant for allegedly attempting to kill a woman in the Japanese capital in May.
Kahsai Tyree Hill, 21, is suspected of trying to strangle a female member of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, 19, at a fast-food store in Shibuya Ward on May 25.
Hill approached the woman from behind as she was retrieving her order, and suddenly began choking her, according to the police.
The woman fainted and fell, resulting in broken bones in her face that took three weeks to heal. The two did not know each other.
Hill has partially denied the allegations, saying that he had no intention of killing the woman when he choked her, according to the police.
He allegedly assaulted a total of five people, including the woman, in the morning of May 25, when he refused to pay a taxi fare, punched the driver and ran away in neighboring Shinjuku Ward. He has already been indicted on charges of assaulting two of them. Jiji Press
