Naha, Okinawa Pref.- Following the crash of an F-15 fighter off the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa on Monday morning, the U.S. military said later in the day that it will suspend flight training with the same type of aircraft until reaffirming safety measures.
The U.S. Air Force's Kadena base in Okinawa announced the decision, following the Okinawa prefectural government's request.
According to the base's 18th Wing, the pilot of the crashed plane is severely injured.
Col. Richard Tanner, vice commander of the base, expressed gratitude to Japan's Air Self-Defense Force for its rescue activities.
An investigation panel will look into the cause of the accident, the wing said. Jiji Press
