Up To 59 Millisieverts per Hour Detected at Fukushima N-Plant
July 3, 2018
Tokyo- Readings of up to 59 millisieverts per hour of radiation were detected on the top floor of the No. 2 reactor building at the tsunami-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station on Monday, according to Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc..
The maximum reading was recorded at a point almost directly above the reactor.
The radiation survey was conducted using two remotely controlled devices sent to the reactor building through a hole created on its outer wall.
The inspection, which began the same day, is part of a preparation for removing 615 nuclear fuel assemblies from a storage pool on the top floor of the building. TEPCO hopes to start the removal work by fiscal 2023.
Monday's survey covered 450 square meters of the 1,560-square-meter floor, with readings of 10.2 to 59.0 millisieverts per hour registered at a total of 19 points. Jiji Press
