Tokyo--Japan's health ministry said Saturday that it has confirmed the country's third case of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus originating in China.
The patient, now in Tokyo, is a female tourist in her 30s from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the woman had no symptoms when she arrived in Japan on Jan. 18. But she started coughing and developed fever on Tuesday night. The woman was diagnosed with the new pneumonia after she visited a medical institution in Tokyo on Thursday.
The woman said she did not visit a Wuhan seafood market, where many Chinese patients are believed to have been infected with the virus. It has not been confirmed whether the woman has had clear contacts with patients of the disease while in China, the ministry said.
The woman also said she was wearing a face mask when moving from one place to another. Jiji Press
