SAN FRANCISCO- A controversial bronze sculpture depicting three young women from Korea, China and the Philippines holding hands next to an older woman, titled, 'Women's Column of Strength' stands in St. Mary's Square in San Francisco's Chinatown in San Francisco, California, USA, 26 November 2017.
The statue which was unveiled in September, honors women and young girls that were forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army in occupied territories during World War II.
After being approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and signed in resolution by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, to accept the transfer of the statue onto city property, Osaka, Japan Mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura has threaten to sever the sister-city relationship with San Francisco saying it's seen by many Japanese citizens and government officials as an insult.
