February 3, 2019
Beijing--Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday stressed the importance of improving Japanese people's sentiment toward China.
During a meeting with visiting Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Takeo Mori, Wang said Chinese people's sentiment toward Japan is improving, while that of Japanese people toward China is still unfavorable.
Wang said an increase in visits to China by Japanese, such as through school trips, may help improve the sentiment. Mori and Wang agreed on the importance of fostering positive sentiment toward each other's country.
The two also agreed to carry out youth exchange and other bilateral programs to make a success of a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Japan expected for June.
This year is very important to both countries, Wang said. He expressed hopes that the two countries will maintain efforts to keep the bilateral relations going on a normal track for healthy and steady development.
Mori visited China to attend a bilateral security dialogue meeting held Friday, which was the first such gathering since October 2017. Jiji Press
