June 18, 2019

London--The wife of disgraced former Nissan Motor Co. <7021> Chairman Carlos Ghosn has sought support from U.S. President Donald Trump for his upcoming trial in Japan, BBC reported on Monday.

"I'd like President Donald Trump to speak to (Japanese) Prime Minister (Shinzo) Abe about...fair trial conditions and to let me speak to my husband, and also to respect this presumption of innocence until proven guilty," Carole Ghosn told the British broadcaster.

Carole, who has U.S. citizenship, said that she wants Trump to do these on the occasion of the summit of the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies in the western Japan city of Osaka on June 28-29. Japan's judicial system is "inhumane" she added.

She has also asked French President Emmanuel Macron to step in over the treatment of her husband. She plans to make a similar request to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Ghosn has been indicted in Japan for a series of alleged financial misconduct. Jiji Press
