July 24, 2018
Tokyo- The first permanent official store selling goods for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics opened on Monday in Tokyo.
While there were temporary outlets selling such products, the new store in Shinjuku Ward will be open until Sept. 30, 2020, after the end of the Paralympics.
The permanent outlet, located on the second floor of Bic Camera Inc.'s Bic Camera Shinjuku Nishiguchi store, offers some 700 kinds of goods including large stuffed mascots of the sporting events.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held during an opening event Monday, attended by Japanese softball ace Yukiko Ueno, as well as Tokyo Olympic mascot Miraitowa and Paralympic mascot Someity.
"I'm happy that the store opened in a place where many customers can visit and be aware of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics," said Ueno, who pitches for Bic Camera Takasaki women's softball team, owned by the major electronic retailer. Jiji Press
