2017 publications sales down for 13th straight year

Tokyo- Estimated sales of publications in Japan in 2017 decreased 6.9 percent from the previous year to 1,370.1 billion yen, down for the 13th straight year, industry data showed Thursday.
Book sales slid 3 percent to 715.2 billion yen, and magazine sales fell a steeper 10.8 percent to 654.8 billion yen, according to the data released by the Research Institute for Publications.
Meanwhile, sales of electronic publications expanded 16 percent to 221.5 billion yen.
Combined sales of physical and electronic publications were estimated at 1,591.6 billion yen, down 4.2 percent. E-publications accounted for 13.9 percent of the total. Jiji Press
