An employee of the French agency for biodiversity measures a signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus), on September 14, 2017 at Audat laken during a campaign to study this species, considered an invasive one across Europe and Japan.
It was introduced to Europe in the 1960s to supplement the Scandinavian Astacus astacus fisheries, which were being damaged by crayfish plague.
