All 9 Japan Students Get Medals at Physics, Chemistry Olympiads

Tokyo- All of the nine Japanese high school participants received medals at the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) and the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the Japanese education ministry said Monday.
At the IPhO, held in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, Takuma Okura, 17, a third-grader at Okayama Prefectural Okayama Asahi Senior High School in western Japan, was awarded a gold medal.
Takanao Ishii, 17, who is in the third year at University of Tsukuba's Senior High School at Komaba in Tokyo, won gold at the IChO, hosted by Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Of the other seven Japanese students, four received silver medals at the IPhO. Two were awarded silver medals at the IChO, and one won bronze at the chemistry event, according to the ministry.
The IPhO was participated by 396 students from 86 nations and regions, and the IChO by 300 students from 75 countries and one region. Jiji Press
