More than 16,000 high schools students took part in the largest art lesson in Quezon City Saturday where they set a new world record, organizers said.
One of the organizers of the PINASayang Sining, Expressions Stationary Shop Inc. (ESSI), said 16,692 students from 32 high schools trooped to the Quezon City Circle where they drew art masks in a 45-minute session.
It surpassed the previous record under the Guinness World Records in India on Nov. 11, 2014 where there were 14,135 participants. Representatives from Guinness will validate this before making an official announcement.
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista said he will give the participating students a one-day break on Monday.
“All of the students who are present here will have no classes this coming Monday,” Bautista said in his speech which drew cheer.
ESSI marketing manager Riza Reneses said they were expecting around 25,000 students but some declined. “We also had to close the area as the event had to start by 7 a.m.,” she said in an a press conference.
The participants were in the venue an hour before the activity began. At the end of the 45-minute session, they raised their drawn masks for around 15 seconds.
The students erupted into cheers after the announcement they broke the world record of India. DMS
