JTB to Offer Luxury Cruise Ship Stays during Tokyo Olympics
June 26, 2018
Yokohama- JTB Corp. said Monday that it will use the luxury cruise ship Sun Princess berthing near Tokyo as a hotel during the 2020 Olympics in the Japanese capital.
A basic three-day and two-night stay plan will cost some 70,000 yen per person for a twin room with no window and 600,000 yen for the most luxurious suite.
Prices will include food, admissions for shows and fees for the use of sports facilities aboard the ship. Tickets for the games will not be covered, but JTB will prepare them for guests.
The ship has a total of 1,011 guest rooms. It will berth at a port in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, and be used as a hotel between July 23 and Aug. 9, 2020.
JTB expects the ship to accommodate 36,000 guests. The company plans to start accepting reservations in spring next year or later.
The Japanese government is promoting the temporary use of passenger vessels as hotels during the Tokyo Games due to worries about possible shortages of accommodation.
JTB's plans will help resolve accommodation shortages during the games, Hiroyuki Takahashi, president and chief executive officer of the company, told a press conference. Jiji Press
