LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – La Trinidad's bakers are preparing its “Giant Strawberry Cake” to highlight a month-long "Strawberry Festival" which starts on March 3.
The giant strawberry shortcake placed the town in the “Guinness Book of World Records” for “The World’s Largest Strawberry Shortcake” in 2004.
“We hope that we will be able to entice more people to visit our municipality and enjoy the activities lined up for this year’s Strawberry Festival because they will surely have fun by participating in the month-long events that were scheduled for the celebration,” Mayor Romeo Salda said.
The 1.8 meter by 1.5 meter giant strawberry shortcake will weigh 2.5 tons, La Trinidad Councilor Estela Adiban said.
Eric Espadero of Valley Bread bakeshop is leading preparations to produce the cake.
Strawberry Festival organizers will collecting P20 per slice of the shortcake to recover part of the expenses in preparing the cake. Around 16,000 slices will be sold.
Revelers, organizers said, will line up at the Lednickey Hall early on March 23 to get a slice of the giant cake.
The Strawberry Festival starts off on March 4 with a mass at the municipal gymnasium followed by opening of the strawberry lane at the municipal grounds that will run up to the end of the month. DMS
