January 25, 2019

Tokyo- Sony Corp. said Wednesday it will start a new service of enabling users of its "aibo" robot dog to watch over their children or elderly family members at home from remote places through videos sent to their smartphones from the pet robot.

The service will be offered for free on a trial basis from mid-February and for 1,598 yen per month from June, the Japanese electronics giant said.

After registering images of the faces of family members in aibo's system, users can check their moves through videos taken by the robot.

The service can also inform users quickly in the event of an emergency involving registered family members.

Sony plans to launch crime-prevention services using aibo in the future, in collaboration with major security service firm Secom Co. Jiji Press
