Tokyo Game Show 2018 Kicks Off; Esports in Spotlight

Chiba- Tokyo Game Show 2018 started at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, east of Tokyo, on Thursday for a four-day run, amid growing interest in esports video game competitions.
The show, one of the world's largest game exhibitions, is scheduled to be open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. The number of exhibitors totals a record 668.
Among items on display are game titles to be launched soon, including Sega Games Co.'s Project Judge and Square Enix Co.'s Kingdom Hearts III.
In February, the Japan esports Union, or JeSU, was established at the initiative of the country's game industry.
At the game show, Capcom Co. and Gungho Online Entertainment Inc. will each hold an esports event with a total prize money of 10 million yen. Jiji Press
