Tour Guide System Featuring 3-D Anime Character Developed

July 6, 2018

Tokyo- Japanese telecommunications firm KDDI Corp. and staffing agency Pasona Group Inc. started testing a tablet-based tour guide system featuring a three-dimensional animation character on Wednesday.

The anime character appears in real footage on a tablet screen to serve as a tour guide at the Otemachi-Bokujyo stock farm, located in an office building in central Tokyo.

The system recognizes questions asked by visitors, for example, "tell me about goats," and the anime character responds with preset answers.

The two companies said the virtual tour guide system can be used at sightseeing facilities and factories.

The system was jointly developed by Pasona's Pasona Tech Systems Inc. unit and KDDI using KDDI's augmented reality and artificial intelligence technologies. Jiji Press
