Tokyo- Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture topped this year's list of the most desirable places to live in the Tokyo area, a survey by a real estate information service firm showed Wednesday.
Yokohama rose from third place in the previous year's rankings, according to the survey conducted by Recruit Sumai Co., the operator of the Suumo real estate information website.
"Yokohama is attractive by many standards including sophistication, character and asset value," Suumo chief editor Yoichi Ikemoto said.
Ebisu in Tokyo remained unchanged in second place. Kichijoji in the Japanese capital fell to third from first.
The survey also showed that Kitasenju in Tokyo came first in the rankings of little-known good places to live, followed by Akabane in Tokyo and Wako in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
The Internet-based survey, which has been conducted almost every year since 2010, received responses from 7,000 people in their 20s to 40s living in Tokyo and neighboring Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures. Jiji Press
