100 cops to be deployed in railways facilities to ensure social distancing – NCRPO
May 10, 2020
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy around 100 Mobile Force Battalion (MFB) personnel in the Light Railway Transit (LRT) and Metro Railway Transit (MRT) stations to ensure proper observance of social distancing once the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila is downgraded to general community quarantine (GCQ).
NCRPO chief Regional Director Debold Sinas held a dialogue with the different transport sector to discuss preparations that must be done in case that the public transportation ban is lifted by May 15.
According to NCRPO chief, they both share a similar goal with the transport sector on safeguarding the safety and security of the commuters.
"A lot of things must be considered especially with the issue of community quarantine,” he said on Saturday.
Sinas affirmed to deploy 100 MFB personnel in LRT and MRT to ensure social distancing protocol.
NCRPO will also establish police desks manned by local police in bus and jeepney terminals to render assistance to the commuters and the terminal management, he said.
“Therefore, we, in NCRPO, have been maximizing all our means in order to prepare for the day after May 15. With the full cooperation of the public, we are hoping that all the guidelines regarding community quarantine will be properly implemented," he added.
The government has been implementing quarantine measures, including social distancing, to prevent further transmission of the coronavirus disease. Ella Dionisio/DMS
