11 Filipinos missing in Lebanon blast as DFA says situation ”fluid”
August 5, 2020
At least two Filipinos died, eight wounded and 11 missing in the big explosion that ripped through Beirut Tuesday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday.
The 11 missing were mostly seafarers, the DFA added.
Citing the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, DFA spokesperson Ed Meñez said the Filipino casualties were in their employers' homes.
Foreign Undersecretary Sarah Arriola, in a press briefing Wednesday, said the fatalities and injured were household service workers.
“Everything is very fluid. We are looking at all hospitals,” she said, adding that financial assistance will be given to all victims.
Arriola said the Philippine Embassy in Beirut is trying to find the missing sailors.
The Philippine Embassy, Arriola added, will assist affected Filipinos and those who wish to return home will be assisted.
She also said the remains of the deceased will be repatriated next week. DMS
