12 arrested for being inside gym in QC
August 24, 2020
Around 12 persons inside a gym in Quezon City were arrested by the city’s Task Force Disiplina for violating quarantine protocols.
According to Rodolfo Leyco Jr, Task Force Disiplina team leader, the raid was conducted on Sunday night after they received a report a gym located at Barangay Holy Spirit was still operating despite the city being placed under general community quarantine (GCQ).
“After we went (to the gym), we positively found that there were gym goers… they were not wearing masks and some were even shirtless,” Leyco said in a TV interview.
The persons said they don’t know that gyms can't operate under GCQ.
Leyco said they did not find the gym owner during the raid.
He said going to the gym poised a health risk to them since they were not wearing masks while in a small space.
The 12 persons were brought to Batasan Police Station and will face charges of violating the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry, the reopening of last batch sectors such as gyms, review centers, internet cafes will be postponed until August 31. Ella Dionisio/DMS
