The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to investigate the individuals who are calling for a revolutionary government.

Police General Archie Gamboa in a statement last Tuesday night said they are monitoring the proponents behind the revolutionary government movement.

“I was informed that letters were sent out to several government agencies inviting us to attend their supposed assembly,” Gamboa said.

“The information was then leaked to the media making it appear that we were involved or worse, that we consented to it,” he added.

Gamboa said he directed CIDG to probe the group calling to find out if there is a basis to file criminal charges against them.

“I have directed the CIDG to investigate the individuals behind it and to determine if there is any basis to file criminal charges leading to a possible arrest,” he said.

Gamboa reiterated that the PNP leadership has nothing to do with the call for a revolutionary government.

“Political stunts such as this are ill-timed considering that we in the midst of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gamboa said.

Last week, a group called Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Committee (MRRD-NECC) held a meeting appealing to President Duterte to head a revolutionary government until Dec. 31, 2021.

The group said this will be followed by elections under a new Constitution for a federal form of government.

Duterte however, distanced himself from them.

“You know, many are now pushing for revolutionary government... I have nothing to do with that, I don’t know those people and that is not my job,” Duterte said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
