August 24, 2020

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will add more 1,333 traditional public utility jeepneys in 23 Metro Manila routes on Wednesday.

These traditional public utility jeeps will ply the routes on Memorandum Circular 2020-040 without special permit.

In exchange, the operator will receive a QR code before it can ply a route. These QR Codes should be printed on short bond paper and should be displayed in the jeepney.

The QR code can be downloaded on the website of LTFRB (www.ltfrb.gov.ph) starting the afternoon of August 25.

LTFRB is reminding operators that fares should not be increased unless it says so.

The present fare is P9.00 for four kilometers and P1.50 in the next kilometer for traditional public utility jeepneys.

The traditional public utility jeepneys should be registered as road worthy at the  Land Transportation Office (LTO) and have  valid Personal Passenger Insurance Policy.

Among the requirements to operate traditional public utility jeepneys is following safety measures according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) like measuring body temperature, wearing face masks and shields and gloves at all times and only 50 percent of passenger capacity.
