14 dead from Tropical Storm Maring: NDRRMC

Fourteen persons were reported dead from Tropical Storm Maring while damage is estimated to be more than 20 million pesos, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday. According to the NDRRMC, a total of 23,787,250 pesos worth of rice were damaged in Quezon province. No reports of damage were obtained from other provinces hit by Maring. The NDDRRMC said a total of 1,052 houses were damaged in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna and Quezon. Of the total number, 892 homes were partially damaged. Romina Marasigan, NDRRMC spokesperson, said reports of nine persons who died were being verified by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The NDRRMC has recorded a total of 7,600 families or 33, 196 persons affected by Maring in Central Luzon, NCR and Calabarzon. The report said 6,863 families or 29,922 individuals were being served in 216 evacuation centers. The agency also reported a major cable problem on (PLDT) communication line in Brgy. Paciano Rizal, Calamba City while 11 road sections and two bridges remained unpassable. Robina Asido/DMS
