Fourteen people were hospitalized due after inhaling chlorine in a swimming pool at a resort in Bulacan on Friday.
In a phone interview with The Daily Manila Shimbun, Pandi municipal police chief Major Avelino Protacio said this happened around 9 am at a private resort in Barangay Bagong Barrio in Pandi.
“They were already swimming when the incident happened. After inhaling the chlorine, some vomited and experienced dizziness… their relatives brought them to hospitals,” Protacio said.
He said ten of the 14 victims, majority of whom were teenagers, were discharged while four remain in the hospital.
According to Protacio, there were police assistance desks in the area but the resort management did not inform them about the incident.
“Maybe they are afraid to have a bad name with their other guests that’s why they did not immediately inform the authorities,” he said.
The Pandi police chief said he requested the sanitation department in their municipality to check the resort's chlorine level.
“I also asked all the resort owners here in Pandi to send samples of their water for examination,” said Protacio. Ella Dionisio/DMS
