2 alleged NPA members killed in Davao del Sur: military

Two alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter in Davao del Sur last Wednesday, a regional military spokesman said Friday.
Capt. Jerry Lamosao, public affairs chief of the 10th Infantry Division, said based on initial report troops of the 39th Infantry Battalion where conducting military operation when they encountered more or less 30 rebels at the vicinity of Sitio Caceras, Barangay Upper Bala, Magsaysay town around 11:30 am.
“Troops immediately established defensive position and delivered suppressive fire towards enemy location the said firefight lasted for about one hour,” he said.
Lamosao said the military operation was conducted in response to reported presence of the armed group in the area.
“The 39th Infantry Battalion received an information stating that armed NPA terrorist were having meeting and planning with their militias in the forested outskirts of Brgy Upper Bala, Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur,” he said.
“Acting on this information the Battalion initiated a Focused Military Operation targeting the group and resulted to the death of two NPA terrorist fighters and the seizure of their two M16 rifles,” he said.
“As observed, there were other several wounded terrorist fighters who being drag away from the fight by their fellow terrorist,” he added.
Lamosao said “Lieutenant Colonel Rhojun Rosales, commanding officer of the 39IB thanked the concerned residents and the barangay officials for the timely and accurate report regarding the presence of CPP-NPA terrorists in their locality.”
He said Major General Noel Clement, 10th ID commander, also lauded the accomplishment of the government forces.
“Our forces will continue on hunting down those remaining CPP-NPA terrorists but will spare those who want to surrender,” he said. Robina Asido/DMS
