2 killed as vegetable delivery truck falls into ravine

Tuba, Benguet  -- Two died while the driver of a vegetable delivery truck was rushed to a hospital after the vehicle fell into a ravine at Barangay Palina, Taloy Sur  before midnight Friday.

Rescuers, led by 911-on-call rescue group chief Rafael Valencia, took six hours to remove the bodies of Bobby Velayo, 26 and Alvin Garces, 27, both from Gapan, Nueva Ecija, from the wreck.

Joel Toledo Figuarao, 35, who drove the ill-fated truck, was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Tuba town police said the vegetable-filled truck was bound for the lowlands around 11:30pm Friday when the driver noticed a mechanical defect prompting him to ram the vehicle to an electric post but the truck plunged into the ravine.

Valencia said they brought out one of the two fatalities from thetruck at 5:30am Saturday. DMS
