August 4, 2019

Authorities on Saturday arrested two suspected members of the communist New People's Army who were allegedly involved in the killing of four policemen in Negros Oriental last July 18.

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office identified the suspects as Edmar Acibo Amaro and Jojo Ogatis, who were apprehended in separate joint operations by the police and military.

Amaro was arrested around 9am for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives in Sitio Yamot, Barangay Mabato in Ayungon where the summary execution against the police officers transpired, while Ogatis was nabbed at around 12 noon at Sitio Sook in the same barangay.

Ogatis was about to get married when he was positively identified by a witness which resulted to his arrest.

The two suspects would face murder charges, while Amaro would also face complaints for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosive.

Authorities are looking for some other eight suspects on the brutal killing of the police officers.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who condemned the incident, earlier raised the reward money to P5 million for the arrest of the suspects. Ella Dionisio/DMS
