245 inmates freed under GCTA back to BuCor

Around 245 inmates who were granted early release under the Good Conduct and Time aAlowance (GCTA) law have returned to the Bureau of Corrections six days before the grace period given by President Rodrigo Duterte lapses.

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) said Friday 245 out of 381 surrenderees are at the BuCor. There are a total of  1,914 freed under the GCTA, the PNP earlier said.

Of the 245, fifty came from Mimaropa (Mindoro- Marinduque- Romblon- Palawan), 32 from Cagayan Valley region, 22 from Ilocos region, 19 from Zamboanga region, 17 from Central Luzon and Bicol regions; 16 from Central Visayas, 14 from National Capital Region, 12 from Cordillera and Northern Mindanao region; 11 from Calabarzon (Cavite- Laguna- Batangas- Rizal- Quezon), eight from Soccsksargen (South Cotabato- Cotabato- Sultan Kudarat- Sarangani- General Santos City) region, six from Eastern Visayas region, five from Caraga region, and four from Western Visayas region.

Majority of the surrenderees are those convicted with murder (127) and rape (114). Ella Dionisio/DMS
