3 killed, including a soldier, in firefight vs alleged NPAs: police

Three people, including a soldier, were killed in an encounter with alleged New People's Army members  in the province of Albay on Tuesday morning, a regional police spokesman said.

Chief Inspector Arthur Gomez, Albay provincial police spokesman, said based on an initial report the encounter occurred in the vicinity of Sitio Mapalac, Brgy Joroan, Tiwi, Albay around 8:30 am.

He said the fire fight that lasted for about 15 minutes resulted in the death of one soldier identified as Pfc. Robbie Regulacion and two armed men whose body were recovered by government forces after the clash.

Gomez said the government troops also recovered some high powered firearms and other war materials from the alleged NPA members.

Among the recovered items includes four M16 rifle, two M203 grenade launcher, two bandoliers with seven magazines with ammos, 13 backpacks, two cellphones, one icom radio, two landmines and subversive documents.

Capt. Joash Pramis, Army’s 9th Infantry Division spokesman, said the war materials were seized from a temporary encampment that was recovered by the military after the fire fight. Robina Asido/DMS
