4 cops killed while serving warrant to fugitive

LA TRINIDAD – Four policemen from the Kalinga Provincial Public Safety Company were killed when they tried to serve a warrant of arrest on a long-time fugitive in remote Lubuagan town in Kalinga Tuesday morning.
Police Officer 3 Cruzaldo Lawagan, Police Officer 2 Jovenal Aguinaldo, Police Officers 1 Charles Compas at Vincent Paul Tay-od died in the shootout.
Senior Inspector Edward Liclic, Police Officers 1 Ferdinand Assuncion,and Ferdie Liwag are at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital after the subject of the warrant, Willy Sagasag, shot it out with them and died in the firefight.
Senior Supt. Brent Madjaco, Kalinga police director, said Sagasag, a leader of a robbery gang, is wanted for murder and other crimes. He was accused of involvement in a 2002 ambush where three policemen were killed.
Sagasag, who was arrested twice and escaped both times, had a P600,000.00 reward. DMS
